The second floor of the New York Bar Association bustled with sky-high models wearing black nylon capes wrapped around their shoulders. The frenziness displayed backstage at the Sachin + Babi SS18 Runway Show was due to none other than the stylish monster herself, New York Fashion Week. This year, the pretty ladies got their ‘glam on’ from AVEDA’s hair and makeup professionals. We had the chance to chat with lead makeup artist, Janell Geason, and head hair stylist, Jon Reyman to get the inside scoop on the latest beauty trends for Spring/Summer ’18.

The ‘I just woke up like this’ look is making a comeback. Out are heavy foundations, and in are lightweight tinted moisturizers. MUA Janell Geason strived to ensure the models had skin that looked fresh, pretty, and clean. “We really wanted to keep the makeup a little bit more simple and a little bit more refined, but still really fresh,” said Geason — think glowing skin, neutral eye shadow, softly lined eyes, and a coral lip.

While makeup at Sachin & Babi accentuated ‘au naturel,’ the hair was bold and defined. Celebrity hair stylist, Jon Reyman, included ‘do juxtaposition within his styles. A strong side part allowed the hairstyle to look put together, yet the inclusion of soft waves and textured braids individualized each style. “We have to pick a style that fits and suits each girl,” said Reyman. “We’re catering the [hair] to their faces and shapes… we’re customizing [the hair] so that it fits each girl.”

The manicures at Sachin + Babi were created by manicurist Geraldine Holford using Dermelect Cosmeceuticals’ line of peptide-infused color nail lacquers. She created a French manicure, using Dermelect’s ‘Sophisticate’ (a cool cashmere taupe) paired with a silver leaf for the French tip. Sachin + Babi’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection was inspired by the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul and the nail look was meant to mimic the shine and texture of sequins, which are heavily used in the collection. Geraldine’s manicures were completed by using Dermelect’s base coat Launchpad Nail Strengthener and high-shine, fast-drying top coat, Memento Manicure Extender Top Coat.
