Runway Report: Philipp Plein Spring 2018

Well, there were a lot of firsts for me during the Philipp Plein Spring 2018: First time at Hemmerstein Ballroom, first time watching a burlesque striptease by none other than Dita von Teese; first time listening to the Future – live, on top of everything (don’t @ me); first time being in the same room with Niki Minaj, who mind you, walked up to take her seat exactly 1hr late; and first time watching the incredible Adriana Lima strut her fine self on the runway in an S&M gear that made me want to be her friend. 😉

And that in a nutshell was the Philipp Plein Spring 2018 runway show, which apparently was rivaling the Alex Wang’s street show across town, for best and most outrageous fashion show this NYFW.

Plein won. Plain and simple.

“It has become a monster, as you can see,” Plain told us right before the show. And it has, not only because it was  a complete and utter mayhem to get in, but also of course because of the huge cult-like popularity the brand has gained in the last few seasons. Often labeled as tacky and very risqué, with tons of celebrities and elaborate performances, Plain has managed to make it all work in perfect harmony. And when a good girl has gone bad — like was the case of his Spring 2018 lineup — you can count me in every step of the way.

But back to the runway portion of the show. The only word thank came to mind over and over as Lima and Irina Sheyk were strutting and snapping their long braids like a bullwhip, was S&M. He showed women’s and men’s concurrently, under the theme “Good Gone Bad,” and some of the dresses were long, models were covered up (which was quite the departure for Plein). There was even a full brocade skirt!!

Can’t say I had seen any fashion show like this. And as one of the PR girls warned me, IT’S GOING TO BE INSANE.

It certainly was.
