The Best of Resort + Resort 2018 Trends to Look For

The designer challenge for creating resortwear has always been the same — clothes that you’ll pack on your tropical vacation, and clothes you’ll be wearing come November, all in the same cohesive collection. Plus,  resort has the longest shelf life of any season and accessibility to every type of shopper is crucial.

The Resort 2018 collections managed to give us that fine balance of fur coats and bikini all in the same line. It’s also giving us new cuts of denim, some ancient Greece vibes, and quite a few knee-high socks that spruce up any shoe game. So read on to see what everyone will be wearing in six months.

It’s time to update your denim (again!) because according to Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, and Solace London wide-legged, heavy denim is in. Think an updated JNCOS, although I don’t know how I feel about that [sce emoji=”facepalm”/]. Like it or not, one thing is for sure: It’s time to toss out those skinny jeans. It’s time.

How do you feel about your socks and heels pairing? Because Fendi, Prada and No. 21 have solidified the trend and put a twist on by showing athletic, knee-high socks juxtaposed agains a high heel. Not mad about this trend.

Elsewhere in shoes, lace-up gladiators have come back in a big way. (Weren’t they just back, like three seasons ago?) Karl Lagerfeld is bringing them back thanks to his Greek goddess inspired collection. Gucci followed suit, although Michele’s collection was more inspired by the Renaissance than anything else.

Vertical stripes are also having a moment, this time on suits. Stella Mccratney, Tibi, Alice + Olivia, and NIcole Miller all showed how to wear stripes on your suit. Taking notes now….Speaking of fabrics, the tropical print was seen on jackets, pants, shirts and skirts, particularly from designers across the Pond like Etro, Pringle of Scotland, Alberta Ferretti and Erdem.

When it comes to color, colorblocking was seen on plenty a runway including Versace, Tabula Rasa, Thom Browne, Rosetta Getty and Delpozo. Monochromatic dressing was also a thing mostly seen at Stella McCartney, Nili Lotan, Samuji, Adam Lippes and Red Valentino.  But if we have to pick one color that took us by a pleasant surprise, it’s tangerine. Particularly the tangerine skirt suit from Victoria Beckham.

All these trends will arrive in stores come November, meanwhile you’ll find us perusing the best of Resort 2018 in the slide above.
