Chloé Fall 2024
Chemena Kamali’s appointment as the creative force behind Chloé has ignited a wave of excitement in the fashion world. With her deep-rooted connection to the brand, having previously worked at Chloé as a junior designer, Kamali brought a wealth of knowledge and passion to her role. Her debut show for Chloé not only showcased her talent but also paid homage to the brand’s rich history. And singlehandedly brought the brand back! At the heart of Chloé lies a philosophy of female empowerment and freedom of expression, and Kamali seamlessly weaved this narrative into her collection. Aptly named ‘Intuition,’ the fall line-up embodies the essence of Chloé—a celebration of intuition, self-expression, and femininity. Drawing inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic designs from the 1970s, Kamali’s collection paid tribute to the legendary designer’s influence on the fashion industry. From scalloped-edged blouses to hipster boot-cut flares, each piece evokes the spirit of Lagerfeld’s era, resonating with both nostalgia and modernity. And absolutely outstanding debut! Louis Vuitton Fall 2024
In March 2014, Nicolas Ghesquière embarked on a new chapter in his career, debuting at Louis Vuitton with a typewritten note expressing the “immense joy” of a fresh start. Ten years later, amidst a crowd of 4,000 attendees, Ghesquière echoed the sentiment of renewal, declaring the evening as “a new dawn.” The synchronicity of these messages speaks volumes about Ghesquière’s evolution as a designer and his enduring commitment to innovation. As Ghesquière revisited key pieces from his Louis Vuitton collections, he seamlessly blended nostalgia with modernity. Jackets adorned with metallic threads and cabochon stones harkened back to the opulence of his Louis XVI-inspired collection from spring 2018. Similarly, sparkling skirts reminiscent of his pandemic-era show in spring 2021 showcased his ability to reinterpret familiar motifs in a fresh light. The swirling asymmetric hems of fringy evening dresses evoked memories of his resort 2017 collection in Rio, demonstrating his mastery of continuity and evolution within his design language. His affinity for sci-fi influences also shone through, adding an element of futurism to the collection. Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest showcase at Louis Vuitton is a testament to his enduring creativity and visionary approach to design. With each collection, he reaffirms his status as a pioneer in the fashion industry, constantly pushing boundaries and redefining the future of luxury fashion. (video above via WWD Instagram)
Marc Jacobs Fall 2024
It is hard to believe that Marc Jacobs celebrated his 40-year anniversary as a designer. At his Fall 2024 show, he paid homage to his personal history with a captivating runway presentation of mod dolls and superb designs. Models strutted beneath a giant folding table and chair, an homage to the late artist Robert Therrien. Jacobs’ affinity for themes and objects rooted in his own experiences adds depth and authenticity to his collections. The garments showcased on the runway featured exaggerated proportions and unconventional detailing, reflecting Jacobs’ penchant for pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion. From chunky sweaters with forward-pushed shoulders to flat trompe l’oeil embellishments, each piece exuded a sense of disorientation and intrigue. While Jacobs drew inspiration from mid-century vintage aesthetics, he injected a contemporary twist into his designs. Ladylike suits and cocktail dresses were juxtaposed with track suits and pastel velour sets, creating a dynamic and eclectic collection that defied categorization. We can’t wait for the next 40, Marc! (video above via WWD Instagram)
Loewe Fall 2024
Nobody in the current fashion game does things better than Jonathan Anderson. Picture this: chic flowing cutaway jersey dresses, immaculate tailcoats, and tailoring that speaks of precision, flower and vegetable prints dancing across fabrics, and balloon-y pants that defy convention. This was the spectacle that Jonathan Anderson unveiled for Fall 2024 at Loewe, a symphony of creativity woven into every stitch. What sets Anderson’s collection apart is his attention to detail. From trompe l’oeil embroidery to meticulously crafted replicas of nature, every element is carefully curated to create an immersive experience of luxury. In the hands of a lesser designer, such opulence could easily veer into excess. But Anderson’s genius lies in his ability to balance the extravagant with the understated, creating a collection that speaks to the desires of modern women. Simply spectacular. Miuccia Prada’s latest collection for Miu Miu is a testament to the her commitment to creating real, unmessed-about-with clothes that exude elegance and sophistication. From knitted cardigan jackets to rose-printed dirndls, each piece is crafted with precision and attention to detail, ensuring timeless appeal. Miuccia Prada always infuses her collections with elements of her own Milanese autobiography. The show opened with narrow double-breasted coats reminiscent of the late ’60s and early ’70s, followed by nods to vintage fashion with askew strands of pearls and discreet lady-suits in neon green. At the heart of Prada’s collection lies a celebration of timelessness. From baby clothes to elegant coats, each piece offers a glimpse into different stages of life. As Mrs. Prada herself remarked to Vogue, “Everyone can choose from them to be a child, or a lady.” This versatility underscores the brand’s ability to cater to a diverse audience while maintaining its signature aesthetic. I will be saving every penny to score one item form this collection, that’s for sure. (video above via WWD Instagram)
Carolina Herrera Fall 20204
While staying true to Carolina Herrera’s feminine signatures, Wes Gordon introduced a modern twist with streamlined and architectural designs. From floral motifs to voluminous sleeves, each piece celebrated Herrera’s iconic style while incorporating contemporary elements. Notable designs included turtleneck tops paired with asymmetrical skirts and zip-front tank tops with palazzo pants, showcasing a blend of elegance and sophistication. For evening ensembles, Gordon showcased hoop-skirt dresses reimagined for the modern woman. Unlike traditional designs, these dresses omitted layers of tulle petticoats, offering a more streamlined and wearable silhouette. Additionally, a stunning black gown with a plunging neckline epitomized elegance and allure, reminiscent of iconic figures such as Madame X. From Ann Woodward to Madame X, each figure embodies the spirit of independence and decadence, inspiring women to embrace their uniqueness and power. (video above via WWD Instagram)
Bottega Veneta Fall 2024
Matthieu Blazy, the creative mind behind Bottega Veneta, took inspiration from the everyday for the Fall 2024 collection. Instead of elaborate designs, Blazy focuses on creating pieces that serve a purpose beyond the runway. This approach stems from a desire to respond to the world’s current challenges and reimagine the role of fashion in everyday life. Despite being designed for everyday wear, the collection features unique volumes and silhouettes that defy convention. The first look, a couture-esque black cocoon coat, showcases a three-dimensional silhouette achieved through clever folding and brass buttons. Each piece in the collection exudes sophistication and elegance, blurring the lines between functional clothing and high fashion. Blazy introduces innovative prints inspired by everyday objects and experiences. “Memory” prints, featuring layers of passport stamps, adorn flowing skirts, adding a whimsical touch to the collection. Meanwhile, subtle “future” prints, reminiscent of loose-leaf and graph paper, lend a contemporary edge to classic wardrobe staples. Blazy’s emphasis on functionality and practicality does not detract from the elegance and sophistication of the garments. Instead, it redefines what it means to dress for everyday life, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary fashion. As the industry continues to evolve, Bottega Veneta remains a pioneer, creating timeless pieces that resonate with modern consumers. (video above via Vogue Runway Instagram)
Acne Studios Fall 2024
In the latest collection, Jonny Johansson, the creative force behind Acne Studios, revisited denim and leather, using them as the building blocks for a more expansive design narrative. Inspired by the works of Estonian artist Villu Jaanisoo, whose “Chairs in Rubber” sculptures served as a catalyst for Johansson’s creative process, the collection explored the intersection of art and fashion. Denim took center stage once again, undergoing innovative treatments to create a range of textures and finishes. From spray-painted surfaces to metallic sheens, each piece of denim exudes a sense of industrial chic. The collection featured a diverse array of denim garments, including high-collared trucker jackets, jeans, and shirt dresses, each infused with Acne Studios’ signature aesthetic. Leather emerged in two distinct forms within the collection. Soft, supple hides are crafted into ruched bodysuits and dresses, evoking the craftsmanship of traditional saddlery. Devine, really. Valentino Fall 2024
Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative force behind Valentino, continues his quest for gender parity by integrating tailored elements into the brand’s classically delicate world. Drawing inspiration from the notion of dismantling toxic masculinity, Piccioli softened tailored suits with traditional couture techniques, creating a collection that challenges conventional gender norms. Piccioli’s vision for the fall women’s ready-to-wear collection revolves around resignifying the codes of femininity from Valentino’s past. Embracing the power of black, the collection seeked to redefine classic elements such as ruffles and bows, infusing them with a new sense of strength and empowerment. The collection unfolded in 63 distinct looks, each offering a unique interpretation of Piccioli’s black on black manifesto for progress. From tailored day-suits to utilitarian jackets and romantic lace evening looks, the collection showcases the versatility of black as a canvas for creativity and expression. Despite the challenges of designing entirely in black, the collection’s subtleties shined through in its impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. Simply spectacular. Daniel Roseberry’s vision for Schiaparelli extends beyond couture to encompass everyday fashion. By incorporating wearable pieces into the collection, he seeked to broaden the brand’s appeal and challenge preconceived notions of high fashion. The inclusion of statement outerwear and relaxed tailoring reflects Roseberry’s desire to cater to the evolving tastes of modern women. One of the standout features of Roseberry’s collection was the emphasis on statement outerwear. Pieces like the navy peacoat with branded buttons and the puffer jacket adorned with brass nipple buttons showcase Schiaparelli’s signature blend of humor and creativity. By infusing these pieces with a sense of effortlessness, Roseberry created fashion-forward looks that resonate with modern sensibilities. (video above via Vogue Runway Instagram)
