The Best Shows from London Fashion Week Fall 2019
One can always count on London designers to bring fresh and interesting ideas to the catwalk. After all, pushing the envelope is what makes fashion tick, and it is one of the many reasons LFW is one of our favorite. There was much to like from the London Fashion Week Fall 2019 lineups: From grand and voluminous evening wear at Erdem and Roksanda, to Victoria Beckham’s utra chic and wearable collection, and Mary Katramztou’s inspirations from the elements, here are the best shows from the London Fashion Week Fall 2019 catwalks we can’ts stop thinking about.
Erdem
For Fall 2019, Erdem Moralioglu was inspired by the the complicated life story of Principessa Orietta Doria Pamphilj (1920–2000), which resulted in delightful bubble dresses, grand bows, gorgeous trains and ostrich feathers. It was rich, colorful, opulent and exactly what makes Erdem the antidote of Brexit.
Victoria Beckham
Now that she is home, it seems like Victoria Beckham has relaxed a bit with her designs. Her color combinations (take the opening look of a while windowpane-checked skirt suit, red blouse and leopard boots) and approach to silhouettes is easy and doable, and one can see themselves putting on a VB dress and looking exactly like VB herself. She called the collection “an A-Z of a woman’s life. She’s a lady, but she’s not ladylike. She’s proper, but she’s not prim.”
Roksanda
Volume and color was the name of the game at the Roksanda Fall 2019 show. Volume and color that is as wearable as it is fashion-forward. And that is exactly want the Roskanda customer wants and likes: Oversized tunic-shirts, color-blocked parkas, bright trousers and evening wear to die for (note a yellow taffeta strewn with feathers, magenta duchess banded with mustard stripes.) Superb.
Simone Rochas
Simon Rocha presented a more youthful, toned down collection that is certain to be more commercial that previous seasons. The designer took a look at privacy, security, femininity and the female form, and showed looks draped in black see-through organza trench coats, ballerina pink dresses, an a perfect all-white skirt and top ensemble worn by Chloë Sevigny.
Mary Katranzou
They now call her a demi-couturier. Because yes, her creations are always works of art and worth collection. For Fall 2019, Katrantzou looked to the earth’s elements for inspiration and created a collection filled with color, textures, an exuberant use of ruffles and ostrich feathers, and one hell of a poncho that still haunts our dreams. Earth, air, fire, water for the win.
