Johnson Hartig of Libertine Really is a Free Thinker
The literal interpretation of the word libertine is a free thinker. And if you take only one look at the Libertine label you will notice that the brand stays true to its literal translation.
Unmoved by trends or following the masses, Libertines’s head designer Johnson Hartig has managed to turn the quirky brand into a cult label in only 15 years, and with followers like Karl Lagerfeld (who, BTW, once bought an entire Libertine collection) the sky really is the limit for the brand. We caught up with Hartig during his trunk show at Neiman Marcus on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, and chatted about non-conformity, freedom of design and why he still chooses to produce only two collections per year.
