It’s Going to be a Very Digital New York Fashion Week Season
For those still wondering, New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021 is happening, even amid a pandemic. The CFDA just released the official schedule for the newly revamped calendar and things look very different than seasons past. For starters, New York Fashion Week will take place September 13-16, much shorter than it’s been in the past, and quite honestly a much needed change.
The roster of designers is also quite slim, and notably missing are some of the heavy hitters of New York Fashion Week like Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, The Row, Prabal Gurung, Ralph Lauren, Brandon Maxwell, Christopher John Rogers, Telfar and Oscar de la Renta. But hey, Marchesa is on it. Ha!
To no surprise most of the designers showing will not do so in person. Instead, designers and brands will present via the CFDA’s Runway360 platform, and what is really great about that is that the 15 new brands added to the roster this season “might not have had the opportunity to share their collections to a global audience without access to Runway360,” per CFDA CEO Steven Kolb. Mostly digital shows also means there will likely be no street style this season, which IMO is a real bummer.
There are a few exceptions to the digital runway show, however. Christian Siriano, Jason Wu and Rebecca Minkoff are all partnering with Lowe’s to create IRL sets. How clever is Lowe’s here though?
Are you planning on “attending” New York Fashion Week this season? Who are you mostly excited to see?
