NYFW Runway Report: Jill Stuart Fall 2017

Velvet, tulle and a dark romanticism inspired by alchemy and essential oils was at the center of the Jill Stuart Fall 2017 collection.
Last season, Jill Stuart referenced the ballet and produced a collection filled with airy chiffons. For Fall 2017, she turned dark and rather romantic, creating a line filled with lots of sheer gold tulle embroidered with liquid gold dots and fused to black velvet creating a stunning effect. (It always helps when the collection is shown as a presentation rather than a runway, as all the important details of a piece are easily noticeable.)
Stuart was looking at alchemy and the art of essential oils, she said, a combination of textures. Indeed that combination worked particularly well with velvet paired with tulle, or velvet joined with lace; the combination of velvet and leather however was a bit overwhelming, however.
The silhouettes were a delight. Victorian details worked flawlessly with the velvet and taffeta; so did the 70s peasant skirts. Loved it all. The full Jill Stuart Fall 2017 collection is in the slide so peep through and tell us what you think.
