NYFW Runway Report: Taoray Wang Fall 2017
The name of the Taoray Wang 2017 collection was Crossover, or the combination of opposite elements: classic with avant-garde deconstruction, masculine with feminine, East and West. Wang Tao (the designer) told WWD he was inspired by contemporary Chinese drama depicting Qing Dynasty characters crossing over from ancient times to the present-day world.
This so-called crossover or juxtaposition worked really well, especially when Wang put together feminine lace negligees under empowering and structured suits. Similarly, bold dresses appeared in rich fabrics and striking colors.
It is now a well-known fact that Wang dressed first daughter Tiffany Trump for the Inauguration last month; Tiffany was sitting FROW alongside her mother donning Taoray Wang head-to-toe. But do you know what I find utterly amusing with this whole situation? The fact that the collection was jam-packed with Clinton-esq pantsuits and female empowerment, right in front of a Trump.
