Runway Report: Creatures of the Wind Spring 2018
It’s always such a pleasure to watch a fashion show of designers who started or have a connection to Chicago. Shane Gabier and Chris Peters of Creatures of the Wind, who are former alumni of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and favorites of Chicago staple Ikram Goldman, looked at old Dutch master paintings and paired it with the psychedelic movement of the 60s to create a restrained but utterly memorable Spring 2018 collection.
From red jacquards, paisley print of the silk dresses and separates and  painted-on florals, glimmering with crystal dust, to the slick leather trenches that had been stripped, re-dyed, and painted, every single piece of the collection was about detail and superb craftsmanship.
The design due also collaborated with Cuyana for the bags, and created a new trend: The long strap of the mini bag usually worn as a crossbody was instead wrapped all the way up the wrist, making for a new and exciting way to wear the minis. In fact, the designers intended for the bag’s adjustable strap to be manipulated and worn around the neck, waist, or on the shoulder.
