OH MY GOD SHOES: The Top Five Spring Shoe Trends
The Weather Channel may be alerting us Chicagoans of “50 percent chance of rain,†and “snow likely at 1 p.m.,†but regardless of what craziness Mother Nature is throwing our way one thing remains true: our fashion will never hinder.
The Spring 2017 shows featured shoes galore – and we were obsessed. From Derek Lam and Altuzarra’s ribbon-wrapped wedges and heels, to Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci’s platform sandals, amazing footwear ruled the catwalk. Here are our top five favorite shoe trends that we’ll be rocking this spring – and how you can incorporate them into your ensembles too.
ALL WRAPPED UP
In love is an understatement when it comes to lace-up shoes. On the Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear runways the trend was featured in a variety of colors and styles – red chunky kitten heels from Valentino and flat Grecian-style sandals from John Galliano. Chicago blogger Jessina Nicole incorporated the trend into her spring ensemble with tan espadrilles paired with a strawberry pink and tropical orange-striped button-up and light wash boyfriend jeans.
ON OUR LEVEL
Wedges are out and platforms are in. Designers like 3.1 Phillip Lim and Balmain added some inches to their supermodel’s height by incorporating platform sandals with metallic straps and wooden sole open-toe clogs into their Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear collections. Blogger and Chicago native Shai Chung featured the sky-high trend into her ensemble by styling a pair of platform espadrille sneakers with frilly jeans and a camel-colored vest.
KICKING (MAJOR) BOOTIE
In case you didn’t already know, booties aren’t just reserved for fall and winter but also a staple during the warmer months. The Spring 2017 Read-to-Wear runways featured booties in spring patterns and colors from designers like Alexander McQueen and Celine. Chicago’s very own Emily DeAngelis from sister blogging duo Walton & Rush styled her own pair of booties with simple black skinnies and a ruffled eggshell blue sweater that is perfect for cool spring temperatures.
SNEAK ATTACK
A white sneaker is and always will be in style, and they’re the perfect comfort shoe that can be worn with pretty much anything. On the Spring 2017 runways designers like Band of Outsiders and Comme des Garcons paired their crisp kicks with flowy slip dresses and Harlem-style trousers, respectively. Chicago fashion blogger Ali Stone from Those White Walls incorporated the must-have into her ensemble featuring a pair of raw-hem skinnies, a simple grey hoodie, and a leather jacket.
SLIP INTO THIS
Slip-on shoes took the fashion world by storm this year. Seen in several shows during Spring 2017 Fashion Month, slides from collections like Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana not only popped up on models on the catwalk, but also on bloggers everywhere. Chicago’s very own Helen Berkun sported the trend in a chic-casual look that featured a metallic pleated midi skirt, and a studded leather jacket.
With outfit inspo galore from some of our fave fashionable Chicagoans and an abundance of shoe styles to wear, it’s safe to say that we have never been more ready for spring. Â What will you be wearing this season?
