NYFW Runway Report: Vivienne Tam Spring 2017
For Spring 2017 Vivienne Tam pulled inspiration from an unlikely place – Houston, Texas. From art, music and culinary arts to science and technology, the vibrant energy of the city was represented via electrifying colors such as Astro orange, bayou green, intense coral and NASA blue.
Speaking of NASA, Tam managed to mix its novelty prints with bright flowers, and fringe bags were paired with tie dye shirts, metallics, and Western silhouettes to create an east meets west “Space Cowboy”. In fact, the designer worked closely with city officials who helped obtain licenses from iconic Houston entities such as Rice University, NASA, the Rodeo, etc. to use their emblems in her collection.
The loose, off the shoulder tops and ruffled sleeves snd cropped wide-legged pants with pleated or fringed edges were balanced with denim and canvas jackets jand pants and dresses with fitted waists and flared skirts with a nod to baby-doll shapes.
Tam managed to keep things perfectly cohesive despite the complexity of the theme. It’s not everyday that you see a collection as unique as this one. We have a feeling Western is gonna be big next season…
