The Paris Haute Couture Spring 2024 collections just wrapped up, and oh la la, what a feast for the eyes it was! Kicking off the season was Daniel Roseberry from Schiaparelli whose collection was devoted to Mars and martians. Amply entitled ‘Schiaparalien’, it was an ode to that which is “part human, part something else.” Giambattista Valli and Dior also treated us to a feast fantastic and frothy gowns at Valli, and a paired back, impeccable collection from Maria Grazia at Dior, who was inspired by the autumn/winter 1952 couture collection and ‘La Cigale dress.’

One of the absolute highlights of the haute couture spring 2024 collections was the magical collaboration between Simone Rocha and the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier. Rocha’s couture debut was impactful and memorable: She merged the most iconic motifs of both houses and showed backless ballgowns and exquisite tulle creations I am still drooling over.

But wait, there’s more! Valentino and Fendi also brought their A-game, presenting collections that were nothing short of unforgettable. Honorable mention for Armani Privé.

Last but most definitely not least was the absolutely incredible collection of John Galliano’s late-night-Paris-inspired show for Maison Margiela – talk about a moment that will be etched in the style books forever. Galliano, the maestro of couture and high drama, created plenty of viral moments but also injected a burst of unparalleled excitement into the fashion scene, creating a buzz like no other. His haute couture spring 2024 Maison Margiela was a whimsical extravaganza, a celebration of the female form that left everyone in awe and anticipation.

Galliano’s genius was on full display as he unveiled groundbreaking dressmaking techniques, pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible in the world of haute couture. Picture this: a mesmerizing catwalk where actress Gwendoline Christie graced the stage in a sheer, corseted gown, epitomizing the perfect blend of elegance and daring.

In the show notes, the inspiration behind this awe-inspiring collection was beautifully articulated: “A walk through the underbelly of Paris… the night-time revellers one passes on a moonlit wander along the Seine, what lies beneath the imprints of their clothes, and what happens behind the dimly-lit windows of their homes.” It’s a poetic journey into the hidden realms of the city of lights, and Galliano’s vision brought it to life in a way that captivated the audience’s imagination. And that is what couture is all about.
